Historic Window Repairs

Client:
Task: Restoration
Brief: Repair and restore an historic window frame, conserving as much of the original frame as possible.
In many instances it is not practical, necessary or appropriate to replace an entire window with a new one

Quite often we are required to draw upon our expertise as carpenters and joiners to repair or replace sections of the window only. In this instance the window cill and first 200mm of the jambs and mullions required replacing, along with the sashes. We were able to retain the top half of the window frame, remake the sashes and glaze with new glass and putty. The new cill incorporated a rebate to prevent water ingress from rain, and we projected the cill past the render to create a drip. We treated all the bare timber with preservative before redecorating, leaving the finished window identical as before with a very happy customer and conservation officer!
