How we give back

We place great importance on sustainability and reducing our impact on the environment. We therefore manage our business in order to create as minimal impact as we can, and to support our customers to do the same.

Direct Carbon Emissions

As a small company, our direct carbon emissions for the year ending March 2018 were 27 tonnes CO2e and come from three main sources – heating and electricity for our office and diesel in our vans.

Impact Area

What We Are Doing About It

Office Heating and Electricity Our new timber-framed office is electrically heated by an Air Source Heat Pump – and is supplied by 100% Renewable electricity from Bulb. This therefore is zero carbon and means we are saving 10 tonnes of carbon per year.
Van Fuel

Our fleet of vans all comply with Euro 5 diesel emissions standards, the most efficient available at the time of purchase.

Our aim over the next 5 years is to replace our diesel vans with electric ones. Current options for these are not suited to our requirements and are too expensive – but we are continuing to undertake research in this area and am confident the technology will catch up with our requirements.

Offsetting Carbon from Window Installs

By installing ‘A’ rated double-glazed windows we are helping our customers save energy costs and reduce their own carbon footprints. In 2018 we installed 370 windows with an average area of 1.26 m2. The Energy Saving Trust estimates a saving of £75 to £110 per year for a 3-bedroom home, so with 8 windows on average that is 46 homes, £3,468 - £5,060 energy costs and 18 – 27 tonnes CO2e saved.

Targeting Zero Waste to Landfill

Our site waste is collected by Collins Skip Hire – who current achieve 95% diversion from landfill with an aim to achieve 100% as soon as possible. In our office, we recycle all our ink cartridges and all other waste (mainly paper) is recycled.

Supply Chain - Timber Windows

We source all our timber windows from George Barnsdale where all of the timber is sourced through the FSC timber certification scheme. These schemes ensure that the sources of the timber are well managed and sustainable. By utilising well-managed timber sources, which is a natural way to sequester carbon we are helping to reduce the carbon in the atmosphere! We truly believe the future of building is in timber construction
