In this instance our client had moved to the Suffolk countryside and into a converted barn, with the commute to and from London and a busy family there was little time for the maintenance this conversion needed, the softwood windows used were a budget option and inappropriate for this kind of building, stained black with blown sealed units and more than a fair amount of water ingress.
Architecture, Restoration, Replacement Doors, Replacement Windows
Remove old and rotten softwood windows and doors and replace with new and redesigned window and door layouts.
We were asked to not only price the work required but to redesign areas to be more in keeping with the scale of the building.
We designed a by-folding door set for the lounge with fixed windows above, this in itself was not to bad but we had no mechanical way of hanging the doors other than by Sky hooks, with a bit of design and a re-think, we were able to incorporate a steel lintel above the doors which not only hung the doors but supports the new windows above.
The main windows in the barn were replaced with flush casements in a French window design, and 3 were in the apex of the roof and posed their own problems with survey and installation.
A boom lift was used for installation and an accurate tape and bevel for the survey.
All windows were of a dual colour with standard traffic white inside and Cement Grey outside, the results look stunning, is draught proof, water tight and thoroughly impressive. So now our client can rest with his family at weekends and forget his windows and doors other than a wash down to keep them looking at their best.
